A little background: Sunday At Seven was created by CD101.9 program Director Blake Lawrence, as a forum for relaxed, intimate conversation with guests from many walks of entertaimnent life, and without the time constraints that have always kept visits to the "drive time" shows tighter and to the point. Here, an easy Sunday morning vibe of breakfast in bed, papers and magazines all around and a chance to 'catch up' reigns. Also, many visiting musicians play live, or debut new music exclusively here, so Sunday At Seven can turn you on to unique sounds as well.
My favorites? It's hard to pick just one, but from time to time, I'll do a spotlight and backstory on a memorable visit. I'm thriled to be able to share this substantial archive of years of star visits with you!
Musicians are always generous guests, and whether it's a living legend like Stevie Wonder Herbie Hancock or Herb Alpert, a jazz icon like Hank Jones or Michel Legrand, composers, arrangers and producers from Marvin Hamlisch to Jeff Lorber to Paul Brown, even rockers like Dr. John and Clarence "Frogman" Henry...every one was at ease at CD101.9's studio piano, and forthright at the mic.
Broadway star visitors have represented the new generation of exciting shows and performers, like Jon Groff, star of "Spring Awakening", the first cast of "Altar Boys", Alan Cumming during his "Three Penny opera" revival", or the old guard like Ben Vereen, Robert Goulet, "Pajama Game" composer Richard Adler. Magic moments can happen, like Christian Bale of "Jersey Boys" visiting with the original Four Seasons member he portrays.
Stepping off the big and little screens and into the intimate space of cabaret, actors like Danny Aiello, Tony Danza, Dominic "Uncle Junior" Chinanese, Lorenzo Lamas and Peter Gallagher have stopped by to share the experience.
So choose a Sunday At Seven Podcast, download it to your Ipod, and enrich your next stretch of "down time" commuting, babysitting, standing in one of New York's many long lines for anything. Or, if you've got the time right now, relax and stream a show while you tap away at the keyboard. Any day is "Sunday" with CD101.9's celebrity interview podcasts! |
