SPECIAL EVENT TO FEATURE CAST OF THE LION KING, SOWETO STRING QUARTET, KHANYO AND SKATING FUN WITH MENAGERIE OF SOUTH AFRICAN ANIMAL CHARACTERS
WHAT: 
Imagine the beauty, grace and power of the South African Safari experience set to the music of one of the worlds most renowned and progressive classical ensembles…then put it all on ice! This is the formula for a spectacular event to celebrate the opening of The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park. The sweet-sounding animal adventure begins with cast members from Broadway's The Lion King warming up the festivities with soul-stirring performances. The sweet sounds of the world-renowned Soweto String Quartet will hover in the autumn air. Family fun will be high on the day's agenda, thanks to free animal face painting and free ice-skating.
The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park return for Fêtes de Noël, the popular open-air international holiday market with more than 100 specialty retailers from around the globe.
WHO:
• The Soweto String Quartet's acclaimed recordings and unforgettable live performances bring together traditional rhythms, Township Jazz, Pop songs, Jazz Fusion and strong classical influences. Long hailed for their performances around the world, the Quartet is in town to perform at the “Sounds of South Africa” concert at New York City Center November 16.
• Khanyo, the inspired South African songstress, first seen and heard by audiences at the age of 14 in her role in Sarafina.
“Broadway Moves” featuring the music of the legendary Lion King Broadway musical. Cast members of the Lion King will perform their memorable show tunes from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. The Soweto String Quartet and Khanyo will delight audiences from 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm. WHERE:
