Deborah Rath is a multi-faceted performer whose talents professional
modeling, singing, voice-overs, and record producing. Before
lending her voice to CD101.9's midday shift, her career in radio
and TV spanned many formats - Jazz, Top 40, News, Talk, R&B,
and Dance. She is the only radio personality at Emmis Communications
who has been an air-personality at all three New York properties:
CD101.9, Hot 97, and Kiss-FM. Deborah graduated with honors from Northwestern University
in Chicago with a degree in Political Science. After an on-air
TV stint in San Francisco, she helped Emmis usher in a brand
new format - "churban" - at Power 106 in Los Angeles.
Tapped in 1986 to help Hot 103.5 in New York (now Hot 97)
climb to the top with its urban sound. In the meantime,
Deborah's first 12-inch single as a vocalist went to #28 on
the Billboard charts. Deborah made the move to sister station
Kiss-FM in 1994 to help launch its then-new "Classic
Soul and Today's R&B" format which took New York
by storm. That same year, she was chosen to host "Woodstock
'94" - a live TV broadcast beamed to 54 countries.
When Emmis acquired CD101.9 in 1998, it was an easy move
for a former jazz/ cabaret singer to slide into the midday
slot, where her ratings have been rock-solid ever since.
Deborah's syndicated work has included many shows in Tokyo
and Chiba, Japan; hosting "American Dance Traxx"
for Westwood One; the Gloria Estefan "Into The Light"
special, which aired on over 200 stations worldwide; and host/
creator of "The Sounds of the New York Underground" which ran on four continents.
Off the air, Deborah and her trio of world-class musicians
often entertain at radio station functions, private parties,
and jazz venues around New York City. Ms. Rath has sung the
National Anthem at Giants and Shea Stadiums, and made history
as the first woman to do play-by-play commentary for the WFL.
Deborah was nominated for "Personality/Show of the Year" for Smooth Jazz by R & R Magazine in 1999 and in 2005. She splits her time between an apartment in Manhattan and a home in Malibu, California.
